In video games, an unexpected delay from when an action starts to when it ends, usually messing up gameplay. Depending on its source, lag can vary:
Frame lag: A delay in processing a frame, usually due to too many active objects. It can cause choppy movement and either slow gameplay or a loss in player control.
Rendering lag: A delay in showing a processed frame, typically when there’s a lot on the screen. It can result in missing visuals or whole objects.
Server-side lag: In online games, it’s a delay between sending and receiving data. It can cause dropped inputs, out-of-sync events, rubber-banding, or even being kicked out.
